Welcome To Homer's Hope!

Hi There! My name is Paw-Paw John and I rescue cats. However, my concern for animals encompasses all kinds. That's why I am also one of the leaders of The South Carolina NO-KILL Alliance, and am working to stop the senseless killing of thousands of healthy adoptable animals in our so-called "shelters" each years.

Homer's Hope is a both a very personal site and a public site. Homer's Hope highlights all of my personal efforts to save animals, particularly cats.

But at the same time, this site is for you. Here, you too can join my efforts, find a place in animal rescue, or perhaps share and link your own efforts to what I am doing here. Although you will see an emphasis on cats here, you will also see all the other stuff I'm involved in as I try to save the lives of these wonderful animals who have no other hope.

Don't worry, there will be some special space and info for all you dog lovers out there as well, plus room for those who have animals of other kinds. I hope that YOU will choose to join me and the hundreds of other animal lovers out there who are working everyday to save animals.

Homer's Hope Joins the No-Kill Movement

Homer's Hope is now a part of the No-Kill Movement that is sweeping the nation!

We believe that the killing of healthy, adoptable and treatable cats and other animals in our state shelters is cruel and inhumane and must be stopped.

To that end, Homer's Hope is working to develop and employ resources to make South Carolina the first No-Kill State in the nation.

Join the BATTLE TO SAVE LIVES!

Did you know that MOST of the animals taken into animal "shelters" this year DID NOT COME OUT ALIVE?

Many of these animals were healthy and adoptable. They were killed not because no one wanted them, but because the cruel animal control model of IMPOUND AND KILL required them to die. Impound and Kill only requires these so-called shelters to only do two things - impound the animal for the state-required holding time, then kill it. That is all that most shelters are required to do.

Yes, most of these "shelters" have some form of adoption program. And many of these "shelters" do provide other services like low-cost spay/neuter, micro-chipping, and vet care. But behind all these "good" things is the very real, shocking fact - these "shelters" kill most of the animals they take in. They don't want you to know that upwards of 80-90% of the animals they take in every year are killed, especially if you were one of the people who brought an animal in hoping to give it a chance at life.

At Homer's Hope, we call this THE GREAT DECEPTION. The major humane organizations in the United States and the "shelters" who follow their model don't want you know the truth. Here at Homer's Hope, we are going to tell you the truth. And we hope you get mad! We hope you get mad enough to do something about it.
